Educational work
There's the system of ideological and educational work with students at the Department of Philology providing interaction with parents, law-enforcement and executive officials, prominent representatives of culture, science and art, making self-conrol in the groups, close interaction with social establishments.
The students of the Department of Philology take part in the actions named as "Memory Watch", "Veteran lives the next door," "Share warmth of your soul," "I'm living in Belarus and proud of it", the literary competition "Autograph" and other. There's a volunteer force at the Department providing assistance to disabled children of Rechitsa orphanage. The header of this volunteer force is T. Osipova, Ph.D. of Russian, General and Slavic Linguistics chair.
National culture is another component of education which promotes awareness of one's ethnicity, national pride, respectful relation to native country's history, traditions and language. So the Belarusian culture and folklore chair founded the student laboratory named "Vandroun³k" (or "Traveler") which deals with the revival and spread of national traditions. Thus, students prepare performance of national celebrations "Kalyada", "Gukanne Viasna", drama plays "Belarusian vyaselle" (or "Belarusian Bride"), "Dazhynki" (or "The End of Reaping") and others. The students of another departments are invited to these performances.
Aesthetic and moral education at the Department of Philology is strongly connected with the training process. Thus, while studying creations of any writer use such forms of teaching as the conduction of thematic literary evenings and recitation competition on a particular theme (Mother's Day, March 8 Holiday, The Victory Day), the preparation and staging the theatre performances. Nowadays the 3rd-year students under the conduction of Belarusian language chair Ph. D. L.M. Minakova put at the stage Kupala's play "Paulinka". Honorable readings dedicated to the famous Russian prose-writer and poet A.S. Pushkin are held near his monument in Gomel.The current academic year included the wonderful Pushkin Ball. Many students attend performances, exhibitions and after discuss it. Also students' meetings with well-known poets and writers of the republic such as L. Dranko-Maysyuk, V. Gavrilovich, N. Shklyarova and many others are organized.
Teachers of the Russian and World Literature Department are actively cooperating with the Slavonic Library. It helps the Department with holding of regional and city events dedicated to Days of Polish, Czech and Russian cultures.
The most capable students assigned to the departments where they are engaged in the laboratories, study groups, seminars named "Vandroun³k" (or "The Traveler"), "Culture of speech," the union of young writers named "Krynitsa". Students unit named "Journalism" is actively cooperating with the city and university newspapers. Creative association of young journalists of the Department is headed by Ph. D. of the Belarusian Language chair E.N. Ermakova. Annually the student scientific conferences, readings, subject Olympiads, organizing and conducting meetings with teachers and honored scientists of the republic are held.
